Some initial ideas for getting started

• Use the actuators (motors) to position sensors optimally (radio, microphone, light etc)
• Make a Zigbee sensor or similar
• Make a sensor board schematic for further use
• Port TOS to the AVR
• Make JTAG pin connect for AVR
• Eclipse plugin for TOS programming
• Active message multi-core using fast UART behind port 4
• Apps: Firedetection sensor (smoke + heat)
• etc. etc.
